Lars Liebeler is a founding partner of Thaler Liebeler LLP.  He practices civil litigation, with emphasis in the areas of commercial and technology law.  Mr. Liebeler has particular expertise in the areas of antitrust and trade regulation, contracts, employment, constitutional, construction, and intellectual property.  Mr. Liebeler is an experienced litigator, having successfully defended and prosecuted cases in both state and federal courts throughout the country and before various administrative bodies, including the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

 


In addition to advising and representing corporations in a wide variety of industries, Mr. Liebeler has provided antitrust counseling to the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), which has 20,000 members.  Mr. Liebeler participated in drafting CompTIA’s policy statement on antitrust law and authored an amicus curiae brief on behalf of CompTIA in the litigation between Intel Corporation and Intergraph Corporation in the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.  Mr. Liebeler co-authored an amicus brief in Microsoft’s appeal before the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and has debated the Court’s ruling in the United States v. Microsoft case in numerous public forums and on MS-NBC, CNN, C-SPAN, and FOX NEWS television networks.

Mr. Liebeler currently represents CompTIA as an intervenor in the European Court of First Instance antitrust / competition proceeding brought by the European Commission against Microsoft.  He testified as an expert witness in that case in April 2006 before the full 14 judge court in Luxembourg.

A 1984 honors graduate of Middlebury College, Mr. Liebeler received his law degree, cum laude, from the Indiana University School of Law in 1987, where he served as Administrative Editor of the Indiana Law Journal and is author of “Trademark Law, Economics, and Grey Market Policy.” 
 

Following graduation from law school, Mr. Liebeler served as law clerk to the Honorable Terrence W. Boyle, United States District Judge for the Eastern District of North Carolina.  Prior to forming Thaler Liebeler LLP Mr. Liebeler was an associate with the litigation group at the Washington, D.C. office of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, LLP.
 

Mr. Liebeler is a member of the District of Columbia and California bars and has been admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C., Federal, Third and Fourth Circuits, and to the U.S. District Courts for the District of Columbia and Maryland.
